CoP Seminar: Gender in Animation

Throughout this seminar we talked about representation of gender in animation. This subject is to each of there own opinion but to be honest in my opinion I think that gender in animation is getting better than what it used to be. However, this subject of sexualising males/females can be misinterpretated in animation and just in how people are drawn, for example there is a contest where you have to create a digital women but they have to be beautiful to win the contest.

On the other hand there is a animation called "Girl's Night Out" by Joanna Quinn, which is about women having a night out but the men are portrayed poorly. There are only two types of men in the animation which are slobbish or a sexy stripper, so this makes men feel like this is what women see in men as. Many people will just ignore this and move on but this does effect some people because it's a bit offensive to men.
